We maintain, at the very core of our beliefs, that “children are a gift of the Lord,” each uniquely created by God. Our desire is to encourage a child’s growth and development in the areas of physical, intellectual, emotional, social and spiritual growth by offering a program of enrichment to your child’s daily experiences. We do this by providing an environment filled with a variety of activities and opportunities where a child can experience success, thereby strengthening positive self-esteem and begin to discover their abilities in an atmosphere of acceptance and love.
We are a Christian preschool. The curriculum operates on monthly themes with weekly units that support the theme. There is a monthly Bible story and Bible memory verse. Rooms are set up in centers that are focused areas of learning through play. All ages include circle times during their class time. Outside play is a normal daily activity but we also utilize the large full size gym on bad weather days. One of our main focuses is on teaching social skills that prepare a child for school. Academic learning comes through play activities that are intentional. All of our classes are exposed to an alphabet letter a week through the school year. Our four year old class and pre-kindergarten class also have a number each week that they learn more about. Our three year old classes have a number of the month as well as a color of the month in which activities are planned around.
Each week our classes have a specialized music teacher who leads them in exploring different aspects of music. Not only do they learn songs, but they also learn basic music theory. We have Christmas and Spring programs to share what they have learned in music.
Our three year old classes have two field trips during the school year - one to the pumpkin patch in the fall and one to a farm in the spring. Our four year old and pre-kindergarten classes have those field trips plus others such as Yakima Museum, Fire Station and Yakima Greenway.
The pre-kindergarten class follows the same curriculum schedule as the four year old classes but have a greater emphasis on early literacy and math skills. They also participate in learning experiences with cooking, science projects, field trips, etc. They have a specialized P.E. teacher who comes in one time per week. (Our four year old classes also have a P.E. class every other week with a specialized teacher.) Our children who graduate from this program are well prepared for success in kindergarten academically, physically and spiritually.
Each week children attend a regular chapel time. Our four year old and pre-kindergarten classes attend together on Monday mornings, and our three year old classes attend together on Tuesday mornings. Through this time they learn what worship is all about – singing, praying and reading the Bible. At the beginning of the year, each child receives their own Preschooler’s Bible to have at home. This same Bible is read from each week in chapel and used in the classroom as well. Parents receive a weekly chapel newsletter sharing what was learned during chapel that week so they can review this with their child and read together again the Bible stories read in school. We also focus on different mission projects throughout the year.
Parent participation in the classroom is welcomed and we do ask for parent assistance on special occasions such as holiday celebrations and cooking or art projects. Parents are encouraged to be an active part of their child’s classroom at their convenience, but this is not required.
We offer an extra class for all ages with Kid’s Club. This class runs from 11:30 am to 1:45 pm each day. This program is open five days a week to all children enrolled in our preschool. While less structured than our regular preschool classes, this fun environment offers a rich experience in early learning activities including arts and crafts, cooking, science experiments, reading, large motor activities, etc. The cost depends upon how many days per month it is used. For students attending 1-4 days per month, the rate is $10 per day. For children attending 5 or more days per month, the rate is $9 per day. There is also a monthly rate for the entire month. This monthly rate changes with each month depending on the number of days per month Kid’s Club is offered. There is a maximum of 10 children per day, with two teachers in the class. Reservations are taken ahead of time and as a “drop-in” if spaces are available. Each child brings their own sack lunch.
