Living Waters For The World Mission Trip Prayer Letter - Feb 13-21

Thank you for praying for our team and the people of Yotholin! Your support in this way is very important to us. Our team members are: Larry Allan, Jim and Kathy Bricel, Gustavo and Katrina Carvajal, Doug and Lyn Lewis, Buzz Rowe, Dave Saunders, and Monte Schilperoote. On this trip we will work with the El Sinai Church to complete the installation of the water purification system. We aim to train a team for maintenance and operation of the system/business. We also will equip a team to educate the community on clean water use, basic hygiene, along with sharing about Jesus Christ, our Living Water.

Saturday, February 13—We leave Yakima…

  • Safe travel as the team heads over to Seattle, and flies into Houston and then on to Merida. Pray that all our luggage/supplies arrive as planned.
  • God’s wisdom and insight as we have time as a team to talk further about some of our particular expectations and plans for each area of focus.

Sunday—We drive to Yotholin…

  • Safety for traveling in our rental cars during the week.
  • A sense of Christian brotherhood as we reunite/meet with the people of Yotholin. Gustavo will be teaching at their morning Sunday School and preaching at the evening service.
  • A clear sense of God’s direction and provision as we sort through supplies and organize work for the next three days.

Monday—Getting started

  • Effective team work as Jim leads the men involved with system installation and maintenance. The hope is to be mostly finished by Wednesday, being able to totally complete and run the system on Thursday.
  • Positive relationships among the education team, Kathy, Lyn and Katrina (translator) and a group of about 15 women from Yotholin. They will meet for three days. Mornings will be spent training the women, and in the afternoons the women will be teaching a group from the community.

Tuesday—Keeping on…

  • Time and energy for our translators, Gustavo and Katrina, as their children/relatives are also along on the trip.
  • Clear communication as Doug talks with the system operators about water distribution and their business plan. (Some of the water will be sold at a reduced rate allowing  income to maintain the system and pay the operators. Other water will be given away to those most in need.)

Wednesday—God’s Spirit moving…

  • The power of God’s word as the women learn and present the Good News of Jesus, our Living Water, to the community.
  • God’s ongoing provision for any supplies and know-how in the installation process and education.
  • Dinner with the El Sinai installation and education partners. Food will be lovingly prepared by the women of the church.

Thursday—Wrapping things up…

  • A wonderful celebration service with the church and community, as we drink the pure water from what we hope is a fully operational water system! Praise God for His goodness.
  • Positive conclusion to this time with new-found friends and brothers and sisters in Christ.
  • Safe travel for Larry, Gustavo, Katrina and family as they head back to Merida to fly out Friday morning.

Friday—Leaving for Merida…

  • A refreshing day on our trip back to Merida. Our departure time will depend on everything being completed at El Sinai.
  • Thank God for our rental cars and continued safety for road travel.

Saturday—Time in Merida…

  • That God would direct our time together, continuing to build relationships within the team.
  • For the people of El Sinai Church as they serve their community. Their desire is that many would come to know Jesus through this “Living Water” ministry.

Sunday—Flying home…

  • Safe return travel for the remainder of the team.
  • On-going communication with the folks of Yotholin, being able to provide any assistance for the system maintenance/operation. A follow-up visit will be scheduled in a year’s time.

Thank you for the generous giving as First Presbyterian Church and Westminster Presbyterian Church joined in raising the funds necessary to bring affordable clean water to this community! We are very grateful for your willingness to join us and support us in prayer.

“Whoever believes in me, as the Scripture has said, streams of living water will flow from within him." (John 7:38)
