HEARING GOD - SUNDAY TEACHING SERIES

Jack PeeblesHow does God communicate with us?
How do we know if what we are “hearing”
is from God and not other forces at work?
Wouldn’t it be a lot easier if God simply used Facebook or email?

This month, we will go on a short three-week exploration into “Hearing God.”  There is no question that the Bible is the unique and authoritative Word of God.  Did you know, however, that God speaks to us through the Holy Spirit as well?  Many of us do not know, nor do we take the time to learn, how to hear God’s voice and yet the Bible is filled with examples of how God speaks to His people.  His habit of communicating with us goes back to the foundation of the world.  Even at creation God SAID to Adam and Eve, “Go forth and multiply!”

Today, God continues to talk to everyday people like you and me.  He doesn’t simply want to give you a set of guidelines or rules to live by.  As we offer our prayers to Him, he does respond, even when we are too busy to listen!  Like an intimate friend, He wants to be in constant communion and conversation with you and His promise is as sure today as it was at the time of the Great Commissioning: “I am with you always, to the very end of the age” (Matt 28:20).

Together on Sunday, we are going to look at the practice of listening to God.

Dick Halverson, Chaplain to the US Senate, 1981-1994:
“Wherever you go this morning, you do not go by accident, nor do you go alone.
Wherever you go, God is sending you.  Wherever you are this week, God has put you there.
He has a purpose in putting you there.  Christ who dwells within you has something He wants to do through you wherever you are.  Believe this, and go in His grace, power, and love.”
