Small Groups
...whenever “two or three come together” in God’s name, they together have an ability
to act in concert for the good of themselves and others.
Matthew 18:15-20
Our goal at First Pres is to make our large church “small” by providing a way to gather together in small groups and to become a church OF Small Groups. We have more than 300 people participating in Small Groups which includes 40 home-based groups. It’s the best place to build friendships, to grow spiritually and to just unpack life with those who have been or are going through similar struggles. We also want to reach those unconnected to God and impact our community and the world. People visit our church because of excellent teaching or worship, but they ultimately stay because they have built friendships by joining a small group.

I grew up in Seattle in a Christian home where going to church three times a week was the norm and food was all important (my folks were in the restaurant business). Bible camp and visiting my grandparents farm in British Columbia took up every summer. As an adult, though, my focus for a few years turned to my family rather than God. This caused a period of bondage rather than the complete freedom I now know in Christ. Therefore, I relate to people who are in rebellion towards God and get caught up in “religion thinking” rather than a relationship with Jesus.
In 2002 my husband Ken and I moved to central Washington and we love it here. We feel blessed being a part of First Pres, getting to know so many kind people and enjoying this wonderful weather. Before our move to Selah, we lived north of Bellingham. At our church I experienced being a part of a women’s small group that grew to fifteen, then “multiplied” into two groups. The support and encouragement I received and eventually gave was life-changing. Small groups became a passion for me. I live daily with that passion because my heart yearns for people to experience the spiritual renewal I’ve received by meeting weekly with a small band of people. Ken tells people he eats small groups for breakfast, lunch and dinner.
My hobbies are photography, golf and playing with my grandchildren.
